You'll find wild turkey, several species of quail, pheasants, and chachalaca. While the hunting season is different for each bird, you may find yourself staying at The Chrestos during the prime season for bird hunting.

If you're looking for a hunting trip that is a little more laid back than the rest, The Chrestos is a great option. There are less people, less noise, and plenty of room to roam.

Texas Hunting License

If you plan to do any hunting during your stay at The Chrestos, you will need to have a valid Texas hunting license. You can purchase a hunting license online or find a local hunting supply store. The license is valid for one year from the date of purchase.

Hunting Equipment You'll Need

FireArm - Rifles are the most common type of gun used for hunting upland birds. The most popular caliber for this type of hunting is a 22 long rifle. You can also use a 20 gauge, but it's not as common.

Boots- A good pair of boots is essential for this type of hunting. You can expect to be walking through a variety of different terrains so you'll want a good pair of boots.

Gloves - You'll find yourself grabbing and holding onto branches and other things while hunting. Gloves will protect you from cuts and scrapes while still being breathable enough to not get overly hot.

Tips for Hunting Success

Choose a Good Location - You'll want to choose a location that has good habitat for the type of bird you're hunting. You'll find that some birds like to live in heavily wooded areas while other like to live in an open field.

Be Quiet - When you're out hunting, you want to try to stay as quiet as possible. Let nature take its course and don't try to force anything. This type of hunting is much more about patience than speed.

Use Scents and Calls - You'll want to use scents and calls to attract certain birds. You can find a variety of scents and calls at most sporting goods stores near Corsicana.

Pay Attention - While you want to be quiet while hunting, you also want to pay attention and be aware of your surroundings. You don't want to be surprised by something while you're out hunting.

Tower Shoots

Price - $395 per hunter

A Tower Shoot is a fun, competitive, and challenging event where Shooters from all over the region come to compete against each other. The competition is usually held in the spring and fall and you need to contact the lodge for dates so you can plan your trip around it.

Hunting Wild Turkey

Wild Turkey Hunt - $500 per person per week.
Farm Turkey Hunt - $350 per person per week.

Turkey season in the state of Texas is from the first Monday in October through the first Saturday in January. Upland Bird Hunting offers a variety of hunts for both wild and domestic turkeys.

Hunting Quail

Walk-n-Gun Quail Hunt- $200 per person per day.
Horseback Quail Hunt- $300 per person per day.

Quail season in the state of Texas runs from October 1st through February 28th. There are two types of hunts you can do at the lodge. You can choose to go on a walk and gun hunt or a horseback quail hunt.

Hunting Pheasant

Walk-n-Gun Pheasant Hunt- $100 per person per day.
Horseback Pheasant Hunt- $150 per person per day.

Pheasant season in the state of Texas runs from September 1st through February 28th. While you can hunt the birds either on foot or horseback, you can only use shotguns for the hunt.

There is also Pheasant Shooting available every Saturday. The cost is $20 per person and includes lunch.
